Iron Money for iOS 1.5.0

October 25, 2011

Iron Money for iOS 1.5.0 is now available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch! Amongst many new features and bug fixes, this update includes support for recurring transactions.

Recurring transactions allow you to add a transaction that automatically repeats over a period of time. With recurring transactions, you simply add a transaction and set it to repeat daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. It can repeat forever, or you can set it to stop on a particular day or after a certain number of times.

Iron Money can automatically add your transactions, but you can also manually add the transactions and simply use recurring transactions to remind yourself that a transaction is coming up. Iron Money makes it easy to see what recurring transactions are coming up, and you can easily add the transaction before or after its date. Additionally, you can easily skip an occurrence if you don’t need to add it.

Additionally, there are lots of other new features, including:

  • Support for iOS 5.
  • Entering transfers has been made even easier.
  • Categories can have their parent changed.
  • A category’s color can be edited.
  • A running uncleared balance now appears while looking at a single account’s transactions (iPad only).
  • A new decimal keypad for entering amounts (iPhone and iPod touch with iOS 4.1 or higher).
  • Improved syncing.
  • Bug fixes.

Iron Money for iOS 1.4.0

April 2, 2011

Iron Money for iOS 1.4.0 is now available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch! Amongst many new features and bug fixes, this update introduces four beautiful graphs: a net-worth graph, an income vs. spending graph, line graphs for each account’s balance over time, and bar charts for the spending in each category (all graphs require iOS 3.2 or higher).

The net-worth graph appears when you tap on “All Accounts.” It shows your net worth by taking the sum of all of your account balances and showing how they’ve changed over time. Additionally, each account has a line graph that shows how its balance changed over time. You can tap anywhere on the line graph to see the exact balance and date for the point you touch.

The “All Categories” view has a graph that compares your income and spending over time by showing your income and spending for each month. Additionally, each category has a bar chart that show the income or spending in the category by month. If the category has subcategories, it’ll show how much was spent in each subcategory. You can tap any bar to get the exact amount it represents, and you can tap the month label to get the sum of the bars (for subcategories) or the difference between the income and spending (for the income and spending chart).

Additionally, there are lots of other new features, including:

  • The name list is now available before you start typing. It will list the names of all of your transactions.
  • You can now open a location in the Maps app from Iron Money.
  • The category transaction lists will include transactions that are associated with the category because of a split; additionally, the amount listed next to the transaction will be the amount that transaction counts for the category.
  • Improved syncing.
  • Bug fixes.

Iron Money for iOS 1.3.0

November 30, 2010

Iron Money for iOS 1.3.0 is now available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch! This update has lots of new features and bug fixes, but I’m going to restrain myself and only talk about four of its new features.

First, adding, editing, and deleting categories is now possible! You’ll love this feature if you have ever wanted to manage your categories while on the go.

Second, you can now switch between seeing a list of your accounts and your categories! Older versions would allow you to see a list of your accounts, but now Iron Money for iOS will show you a list of your categories as well. Additionally, you can tap on any category to see a list of the transactions in that category, making it even easier to browse your transactions.

Third, the account and category lists have “All Accounts” and “All Categories” views! Both allow you to see all of your transactions regardless of what account or category they’re in. In the accounts list, the “All Accounts” row will show you the sum of all of your account balances; this makes it really easy to look at how much you have in total across all of your bank accounts.

Last, but certainly not least, a suggestion list now appears as you start to type a transaction’s name on iOS 4. The suggestion list is based on your prior transaction names and the letters you begin to type. The suggestion list makes entering a transaction’s name faster, and is even handy for editing transaction names to match earlier entries.

Iron Money for iOS 1.2.0

August 18, 2010

Iron Money for iOS 1.2.0 is now available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch! This update has numerous bug fixes and introduces a number new features, a few of which I’ll cover below.

First, editing accounts and transactions is now possible! This was the most frequently requested feature and it’s now available. The edits you make will, as always, be synced back to IronMoney.com when your iOS device has an internet connection.

Second, the app has had a bit of a redesign—the tab bar at the bottom of the screen (or bottom left on iPad) has been removed in favor of a Settings button in the top left. Additionally, the icon has been updated with a fresher look.

Last, but not least, the app’s accessibility has been improved. I’ve taken some time to make sure that Iron Money for iOS works well with Apple’s VoiceOver technology.

Iron Money for iPhone OS 1.1.0

June 2, 2010

Iron Money for iPhone OS 1.1.0 is now available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch!

This update has numerous bug fixes and introduces a few new features. First, you can now set a passcode for the application; no one will be able to get into the app without knowing your passcode. If you ever forget your passcode, you can simply sign into Iron Money (the web app) to reset it.

Second, the application now supports splits on transactions! You can add splits when you add a transaction for even better financial tracking.

Last, but not least, you can now see details about a transaction with a simple tap; the transaction view will show you the amount, category, and even the location of the transaction (if you opt into using Iron Money’s location features).

Introducing Iron Money for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch

April 3, 2010

Today I’m ecstatic to introduce Iron Money for iPhone OS, which is now available as a free application on the App Store (download—will open iTunes). Iron Money for iPhone OS (Iron Money iPhone for short) is available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iPhone OS 3.1 or higher.

Iron Money iPhone lets you add transactions as they happen so your account balances are always up to date. Iron Money iPhone syncs with IronMoney.com, which makes it super easy to add transactions while you’re on the go while still being able to access the full feature-set of the web service when you’re at your computer.

When you first use Iron Money iPhone, you’ll be asked to sign in or sign up. Afterwards, you’ll authorize Iron Money iPhone to access your data; then, you’ll be sent back to the Iron Money iPhone and the app will start syncing. You can always de-authorize the app from the website if your phone is stolen or misplaced.

Below are a few screenshots of the app in action on iPhone and iPad, respectively. See it on your own device by downloading it from the App Store today!
