Today I’m excited to introduce recurring transaction notifications for Iron Money!

Recurring transactions allow you to add a transaction that automatically repeats on a schedule, such as every week or every few months. You can now receive notifications before, when, and after a recurring transaction is added or expected to be added.

For example, if you create a monthly recurring transaction for your credit card bill, you can tell Iron Money to notify you one week before your bill is due. You can also receive notifications when a recurring transaction occurs (which is handy when you have a recurring transaction that is automatically added and you’d like a reminder that it was added, or when you have a recurring transaction that is not added automatically and you need to handle it manually). You can even receive a notification after a recurring transaction has occurred; this is useful when you have something to do sometime after the recurring transaction occurs (e.g. check to make sure a regular payment was received).

Join the tens of thousands of others that have signed up for Iron Money and let me know if you have any feedback!

Today I’m very excited to introduce notifications for Iron Money! You can now receive notifications when notable events occur in Iron Money.

Account balance notifications can be sent when your account balances are below a certain amount or reach a certain amount. These notifications are specific to each account, so you can have a different amounts for your checking account, your credit card account, etc.

In conjunction with the new file storage feature, Iron Money will notify you when you are running low on storage space. Since Iron Money will let you know when you need to buy more storage space, you don’t have to worry about suddenly running out of space when it’s most unexpected.

The new Notifications tab on IronMoney.com shows all of your notifications and will have a red notification badge when you have new notifications. You can also receive unread notifications via email. New users have this option automatically enabled when you confirm your email address, but existing users will need to manually enable this under the Settings tab.

Both Iron Money for iOS and Iron Money for Mac will be updated in the coming months to support notifications. Join the tens of thousands of others that have signed up for Iron Money and let me know if you have any feedback!

Today I’m very excited to introduce file storage for Iron Money! You can now attach files to accounts, categories, transactions, and uploads.

File storage is really handy for keeping track of bills, checks, receipts, and any other documents related to your personal finances. There are many ways in which this is useful:

When you make a purchase, you might want to save a photo of the receipt with the transaction, or attach a PDF of the receipt if you made the purchase online. This is really handy for returning items and tax purposes.

You can attach scanned checks to their respective transactions.

Bank statements can be attached to your accounts.

You might want to attach expense reports to your categories.

Account uploads automatically store the uploaded file so you don’t have to keep a copy on your computer.

Your files are encrypted and stored in multiple locations, so they are much more safe than they are on your own computer. Additionally, since they are stored with IronMoney.com, you can easily access them from wherever you have an Internet connection.

Everyone has 20 MB of free storage, which is great for storing account uploads and attaching a couple of files to your accounts, categories, and/or transactions. You can easily upgrade to 1 GB of storage for $9.99/year (about 1000 files for less than a dollar a month) when you need more storage space.

You can start adding files right now! Both Iron Money for iOS and Iron Money for Mac will be updated in the coming months to support file storage. Join the tens of thousands of others that have signed up for Iron Money and let me know if you have any feedback!

Iron Money for iOS 1.5.0 is now available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch! Amongst many new features and bug fixes, this update includes support for recurring transactions.

Recurring transactions allow you to add a transaction that automatically repeats over a period of time. With recurring transactions, you simply add a transaction and set it to repeat daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. It can repeat forever, or you can set it to stop on a particular day or after a certain number of times.

Iron Money can automatically add your transactions, but you can also manually add the transactions and simply use recurring transactions to remind yourself that a transaction is coming up. Iron Money makes it easy to see what recurring transactions are coming up, and you can easily add the transaction before or after its date. Additionally, you can easily skip an occurrence if you don’t need to add it.

Additionally, there are lots of other new features, including:

Support for iOS 5.

Entering transfers has been made even easier.

Categories can have their parent changed.

A category’s color can be edited.

A running uncleared balance now appears while looking at a single account’s transactions (iPad only).

A new decimal keypad for entering amounts (iPhone and iPod touch with iOS 4.1 or higher).

Improved syncing.

Bug fixes.

Iron Money makes it easy to see what recurring transactions are coming up, and you can easily add the transaction before or after its date. Additionally, you can easily skip an occurrence if you don’t need to add it.

You can add your recurring transactions to Iron Money right now. Both Iron Money for iOS and Iron Money for Mac will be updated later this year to support recurring transactions. Join the thousands of others that have signed up for Iron Money and let me know if you have any feedback!

Iron Money for Mac 1.1.0 is now available in the Mac App Store! Amongst many new features and bug fixes, this update introduces support for Mac OS X Lion and four beautiful graphs: a net-worth graph, an income vs. spending graph, line graphs for each account’s balance over time, and bar charts for the spending in each category.

The net-worth graph appears when you click on “Accounts” in the source list on the left. It shows your net worth by taking the sum of all of your account balances and showing how they’ve changed over time. Additionally, each account has a line graph that shows how its balance changed over time. You can hover anywhere over the line graph to see the exact balance at any given point in time.

The “Categories” view has a graph that compares your income and spending over time by showing your income and spending for each month. Additionally, each category has a bar chart that show the income or spending in the category by month. If the category has subcategories, it’ll show how much was spent in each subcategory. You can hover over any bar to get the exact amount it represents, and you can hover over the month label to get the sum of the bars (for subcategories) or the difference between the income and spending (for the income and spending chart).

This update also brings full support for Mac OS X Lion. First and foremost, Iron Money can be made full-screen to take advantage of all of your screen real estate. Additionally, Iron Money supports Resume, which allows it to reopen right where you left off. Furthermore, Iron Money’s security is increased with support for Application Sandboxing.

Additionally, there are lots of other new features, including:

Transaction amounts are now colored in transaction tables.

A running uncleared balance now appears while looking at a single account’s transactions.

The amount text field will have a minus sign in it if the selected category is a spending category.

Multiple transactions can be deleted together.

Categories can have their parent changed.

A category’s color can be edited.

Improved syncing.

Bug fixes.

Today I’m happy to mention a few improvements to IronMoney.com:

A running uncleared balance is displayed next to transactions on account pages. This is great for reconciling accounts and seeing the effect of upcoming transactions that have already been added.

You can now move a category from one parent to another. This is helpful if you want to re-organize your category hierarchy.

You can now add, edit, and delete splits from the new and edit transaction pages. This makes it easy to quickly add, edit, and remove splits while adding or editing a transaction.

Major speed improvements have been made across the entire site. These improvements are especially apparent when uploading transaction data to accounts.

The net-worth graph appears when you tap on “All Accounts.” It shows your net worth by taking the sum of all of your account balances and showing how they’ve changed over time.
You can now open a location in the Maps app from Iron Money.

The category transaction lists will include transactions that are associated with the category because of a split; additionally, the amount listed next to the transaction will be the amount that transaction counts for the category.
